Grant, Emperor Frederick III, January 12, 1463 (Document 1463, January 12, Dunajsko Novo mesto in AS.)
Arms originally sketched by Janez Vajkard Valvasor, "Opus Insignium Armorumque" and later painted by the heraldic artist Bartholomaeus Ramschisslu.
The arms as depicted include a crescent placed on the eagle's breast with an enhancement to the former crescent counter compony Gules and Argent (gold and white) in gratitude to the Carniolian noblemen and knights who came to the Emperor's assistance during the siege of Vienna. The crescent was an addition to the eagle in order to distinguish it from the eagles displayed on the arms of other Austrian provinces.
