Originally drawn in 1483, published in Siegenfeld's book in 1900, the arms represented the Lords of Hohenberg, who held a seat in Wilhelmsburg (today Lower Austria, historically the region was Styria).
However, within the context of Styria, and given the source of the image is Siegenfeld's publication from 1900, the probability of these arms being a variation of the historical Carantanian arms, the panther Sable on a shield Argent, is strongly suggested. However, the hind "paws" of this heraldic beast are illustrated as hooves, which is inconsistent with any rendering of a heraldic panther. |
